Yes, social media is all the rage, and MarketVolt believes that many firms should have marketing strategies that include social media. But the simple fact is that when it comes to digital marketing, email is more powerful than Facebook or Twitter. At least, that's according to marketing firm Custora, which recently published an analysis of data on 72 million customers of 86 retailers across the United States.
Custora, which provides customer value analysis for online retailers, said email marketing "has been a growing trend in e-commerce, with an increasing number of retailers building communities and collecting email addresses, then converting those 'members' into customers."
The report said that customer acquisition via email has quadrupled over the past four years, and it now accounts for 6.8% of customers acquired, behind cost-per-click ads with 9.8% and organic search with 15.8%.
