So here's a key tip for email marketing. Ditch the tricks. I got an email recently from somebody. The subject line was "re: regarding our conversation."

I wasn't sure if I knew the guy, I didn't recognize the name, but I saw that subject line and thought, "Well, I better open it."

And when I opened it I realized, "Yep I don't know this guy."

He was pitching some product and service I had no interest in, and I was ticked off.

All that these tricks will do is annoy people, undermine trust, and they won't help you get anywhere.

The way to get somewhere with email marketing is to build lists with people who want to hear from you and give you permission to contact them, and then just be straight with them.

Write subject lines that tell them why they should open the email, what's in it, and then be straight with the content.

If you're providing valuable, important, interesting content to people who have said they want to hear from you, you will succeed in your email marketing campaign without stupid tricks.
